Despite the fast development of the country and strong influenced from the Western side, the traditions of Thai people remain in their hearts. Known as the Land of Smile, Thailand has been the hub to many tourists particularly to foreign nationals who wants to experience holiday together with their families. Aside from the given fact that Thai people are very friendly and accommodating, the country is endowed with natural resources like the wide strip beaches of Phuket and Pattaya to mention a few and farms to tropical fruits like Durian, Rambutan and many others. In addition, modern hotels and serviced apartments are readily available in all provinces with low price. Best of all, the sumptuous, affordable Thai food found anywhere.

Thai Government thru The Tourism Authority is doing its best to put the country into limelight by showcasing the best of Thailand, proof to it is the successful celebration of Songkran Festival last April 12-15. Different measurements were being set to make the 3-day event meaningful. Foreigners enjoyed the splashing of waters, everybody on that week showed “the child in me” because of the water firing with the use of water guns. Tourists also choose Thailand as their destination because peace and order is generally normal despite some threats. Tourism Office is exerting their effort to make Tourism Industry boom by initiating different undertakings such as installation of police posts for police visibility and supporting

The recent survey by Skyscanner, was done thru online poll with at least 1,200 correspondents from Australia, North America and Europe. This is being conducted by travel websites to give idea to those who want to have a worthwhile spending holiday. Named “ the world’s rudest country” survey, France came us the most rude, according to some it is because French people are known for their abrupt character that may look to travelers unfriendly, Russia, United Kingdom and Germany follows as rude to visitor’s countries while China came as the most impolite among Asian countries. Language barrier is being seen as the reason. Joining Thailand as the least rude nations are Portugal, Caribbean Countries, Brazil and the Philippines.

She urged the local officials to put into list the areas prone to accidents, find ways, and mean to avoid them. Second, encourage the motorists to always wear helmets while traveling, the Third campaign is strictly apply the Alcohol Ban Law prohibiting the selling of alcoholic beverages to people below 20 years old and importantly, the prohibition of drinking on the road.
Songkran, also known as the Thai New Year, is one of the most important and spectacular event Thailand celebrates. A festival showcasing the rich culture of the Thai people, a reason why tourists flocked to experience not only the splashing of water in the streets but witness different activities during the festival such as cultural performances, taste Thai foods and the pouring of Thai scented water to Buddha image and to elders. For the Thai people, Songkran is a time to celebrate with families. Locals who have found work in Bangkok always find time to go home to their respective provinces and join their love ones during the festival. Not only the locals are enjoying the grand event but the tourists are also excited to feel the moments of getting wet in the streets. Foreigners tripled their numbers who come here in Thailand, some have come for nth time and keep coming back because of the wonderful experience they gained. Aside from the enjoyable activities, the visitors always feel their security since the government is doing their best to have a peaceful gathering. Streetwalkers particularly the working people keep their things of getting wet. Zip locks used for packing their bags and other sensitive to water gadgets such as mobile phones. Despite the hassles made, for them, it’s a part of the celebration. Usual, water-splashing, the high light of the celebration, will take place anywhere in Thailand and no one cannot and should not refuse as this is a tradition. To experience it more, Silom Road on Sunday closed from 2 pm to 8 pm to avoid traffic jams while everyone is enjoying the throwing of pail of waters. People from all lifestyles, regardless of age, join the fun by using water guns. Some ride vehicles and threw pail of waters to street goers. Newcomers will not feel the essence of the festival without getting wet. Not just an ordinary wet but taking a bath in the street would likely to happen. For now, water guns, plastic mobile covers, raincoats are now for sale on malls and sidewalk vendors. To be ready, one must buy on the mentioned item. Public offices and some private offices are on holidays to give chance to their staff feel the moment of Songkran together with their families. Although some had experience economy hardship because of the flood, it would not hinder them in joining the annual activity.

Considering the festival being, the present administration had already planned safety measures to ensure that the celebration be made successful. Proof to it, 4,200 police were assigned to 36 security check points at Nakhon Ratchasima highways. Since the government is eyeing for a higher income, and Songkran Festival helps a lot in the economic boom particularly in the Tourism Industry, this endeavor is being carefully plan. The administration is also thankful to the business sector because of their big participation that will make the event more enjoyable. Malls, restaurants, bars and even street food vendors are preparing for the 3-day celebration. Different initiatives are now in a row like discounts, food promos and entertainments are just one of them. It’s one of a kind, reason why tourists love to come in Thailand. It describes how amazing Thailand is.

“Cigarette Smoking is Dangerous to Your Health”, phrase often seen on Cigarette packs and often ignored by smokers, of course. However, in Phitsanulok Province when the anti-smoking campaign will be fully implemented. People in the said province are working hand in hand to support the said campaign like businesspersons, religious sector and even municipal agencies.

During the 15th world Conference on Tobacco and Health held in Singapore last March 23, 2012, Boonterm Tansurat, Phitsanulok’s Public Health Officer stated that community of the said province are actively participating to the said cause. Everybody knows the effect of smoking to human. The agony is that an even person who does not smoke still be affected and is likely to the first to have deficiency like the second smoker or the one who does not smoke but unfortunately smelled the smoke are more prone to lung cancer than the one who really smokes. Smoking is not good for skin especially to aging women.

In Phitsanulok alone, in a survey conducted last 2009, 28% out of 200,000 population of young people are already smoking. In addition, more or less 22.57% of teenagers in entire Thailand smoke although the Tobacco Control Act already adopted in 1992 particularly in school campus, business communities. Seeing the situation, the government is working to make Thailand smoke-free country. Dr. Boonterm believes that the said campaign needed since more people suffer illnesses because of smoking cigarettes.

Boonterm Tansurat, Phitsanulok’s public health chief, said health authorities are working with the volunteer sector, retailers and local authorities to campaign against smoking and make the province tobacco-free. Recently, a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signed by and between retailers of cigarettes and liquors. Dr. Boonterm also said that it will not be easily absorbed by the people especially to smokers but he further believes that thru information dissemination like the conduct of forums, symposiums to schools and the giving of hand-outs, these will help instilled to the mind of the people and let them understand the disadvantages of smoking. He said that it takes a number of months to make the campaign successful but as the days go by, more will understand the cause. He is hopeful that Phitsanulok will be the first province of Thailand to be smoke-free. Dr. Boonterm’s idea is also the same in Sukothai, his workplace before.

In addition, the Secretary-General of Association of Southeast Asean Nation (ASEAN), Surin Pitsuwan of Thailand is urging the member nation to implement smoke-free laws. In Davao City of the Philippines, smoking is prohibited in ALL places including buses and other transport. Anyone caught doing so will put into prison and pay fines.

Health authorities, officials, cigarette and liquor retailers, anti-smoking, and drinking networks have signed a memorandum of understanding on strengthening cooperation to make Phitsanulok a smoke-free province of Thailand. According to survey, Thailand has up to 600 people are thought to take up smoking every day, most of them teenagers. This is the reason why the government is finding ways and means to solve this problem. The fact that this country is a hub for tourists, implementing this act is not easy but with the political will and support of the local and national officials, it could be possible.

Optimistically, this endeavor initiated by the people of Phitsanulok will enable Thailand reached its goal to be a smoke-free country.

It opened for domestic services in 1924, Don Mueng Airport rendered its services to countless travelers and had been a witness to the growing economy of Thailand. Nevertheless, in 2006, Suvarnabhumi International Airport was born, declaring it as the only airport in the country. Knowing Thailand as the tourist destination because of its beautiful places beyond compare such as the beach, hotels, resorts and best of all, the smiling faces of Thais, it has been observed that tourists and the locals are having a hard time in the check in counters. Most cases, clients waited for a span of time for their documents and baggage that needs to be release. Seeing the scenario, the government of Thailand thru the Ministry of Transportation agreed to reopen the old airport to provide quality customer service, which is the utmost agenda of the government especially to the flocking tourists. Last March 6, 2012 marks the reopening of the latter. Low cost airlines are being encouraged to have Don Mueng as their port. According to Thai Government, the Infrastructure (Don Mueng) must used to help relieve the problems most airport encountered such as waiting for a couple of hours.

With the growing number of tourists here in Thailand, Transport Minister Jarupong Ruwangsuwan said that reopening the old airport for now is the best solution to avoid hassles since the renovation of Suvarnabhumi will take five years. Many factors needed to consider before doing the said plan. Statistically, Suvarnabhumi Airport can serve 51 Million passengers, up from its actual capacity of 45 Million.

However, Airlines executive aired their side particularly in the investment friendly policy between the government and the airlines. By doing so, low-cost fare will be enjoyed by the clients and for them, Don Mueng is better than Suvarnabhumi for many reasons. Other concerns arose with the reopening and one of them is the transfer of residents of the personnel of the airport and the airlines. Most of these staff lives approximately Suvarnabhumi. In addition, late last year, during the flood, Don Mueng affected with the said calamity making the said disaster the main concern of the Airlines who will be using the said airport. Air executives want a clear agenda in the occurrence of flood since the area is prone to the said calamity. According to them, investing money must give priority in the airport business by laying the agenda of the government concerning the said project.

With the birth of the said undertaking, country’s economy will increase while quality service will improved, giving satisfaction to its valued clients.

Importantly, the reopening of Don Mueng will be the answer to the high cost budget flight. Laws are to be set during operation and experiencing long lines be avoided if not erased. The government has meetings with the different airlines lading in Suvarnabhumi to hear their sides and find ways that will mean to improve the basic services. It is being revealed that the old airport help reduce passenger loads to 17 to 18 million a year.

The government of Thailand in their desire to help the passengers find convenient waiting place, the reopening is the only way if the not the best way.

“Petroleum Exploration Project Location TW –IX” signage is now being seen at Putthamonton Sai 2 Road of Thawi Watthana District, part of the warning device installed by Mitra Energy Limited, the UK company who is now conducting oil drilling of the said site. Though considered as a Green Zone, the said undertaking continues as the company promises it has implemented guidelines so as not to affect the environment such as putting up high fences to avoid noise pollution and the use of new technologies in digging up holes without destructing the sandy layer of the earth. They also said that refinery area would not be in the said district but the oil be transported to the chosen area where the safety standard for the environment is being met.

Aside from the above-mentioned district, the Government of Thailand thru Chavalit Pichalai, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Minerals is also suggesting other areas that are possible for oil presence such in Nonthaburi, Pathum Thani, Nakhon Pathom, Ayutthaya and Suphan Buri with a sum of 3,983 sq. km.

Prime agreement was also being set between the British Company and the Government of Thailand is to return the oil exploration to the government, regardless of the result of the drilling. If found there is enough supply of oil, the company will apply for another concession, this time with several requirements to comply for the sake of the environment and for entire Thailand. This action is to avoid possible disasters. The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration’s Department of City Planning is the responsible agency in assessing the approval of the operation, if in case.

Aside from Mitra Energy Limited, two drillings been done on the said area, in 1974 and 1988, unfortunately, they failed. However, the present company is hopeful they can find enough oil. Representative from Mitra Energy said that they are hopeful they can dig oil supply that will cater not only Thais but even to neighboring countries.

The pro hopes for a positive result, since it will help the country raised its economy for the reason Thailand will no longer be dependent to Arab Countries. Such as importing oil and most of all, the consumers will no longer suffer oil price increase that will affects the whole domestic market but the opposed people has its mind setting that no oil can be found. A month from now, the result will be release from Mitra Energy, if the outcome is positive they will conduct a study that will be done on both sides, to scrutinize the economic impact and sustainability of the said project.
